Andrea Barreda was born in Lima, Peru in 1985. Barreda works predominantly in the medium of painting and drawing. Andrea is currently completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the "National Superior School of Fine Arts in Lima, Peru. In September 2013 she received a scholarship from the Indonesian Embassy in Peru for a Fine Arts Semester Study Abroad Program. In October 2016 she received a scholarship for an Arts Residency program from GLO’ART, a leading international arts Centre located in Lanaken, Belgium, where she spent of 1 month and a half completing the program. She has had 4 Solo Shows in Lima, Peru, and has participated in many group shows.
Her current work is inspired by the theme of ‘life and death in nature’ and more often represented in the female figure. Andrea’s work is captivating on a deep level where death, beauty and life connect in the most harmonious of ironies.
When asked about her work, Andrea explains how in nature we can see beauty in a seed growing through the soil and then becoming the most beautiful flower. However, at the same time we can see a dry and dying flower right next to it surrounded by insects. She also describes her fascination for painting beautiful women, portraying a subtle macabre feel on them. This reinforces the idea that death is always present in every instant of life and nature.
Andrea is currently working in a new series of paintings. She lives and works in Lima, Peru.
